Ok so after the first debate I was all for McCain. Obama looked like an arrogant ass and I just didn’t like the way he came off. Still does after the second debate but McCain just looks desperate.

Well between the first and second debate I decided to focus on the issues rather than the candidates. Let’s face it, the President doesn’t really run the Country. We’ve all watched West Wing. It’s really the lacky’s and advisers. So who has the best plans for America? Here is a synopsis of what I found out.

Economy:

McCain - More trickle down economics. Typical Republican style, if we give corporate America more money, they will re-invest it in new jobs, etc. Unfortunately it didn’t work for Bush, chances are it won’t work for McCain either. At least he wants to double the child tax credit and that would be a big help for big families.

Obama - Democratic Robin Hood. Take from the rich and give to the poor. Meager help at best. His plan to immediately give every taxpayer a $1000 stimulus check doesn’t do much for me. What is it going to do? I’m just going to turn around and give it to someone I owe anyways. Obama makes some attempts to reduce tax liabilities, but I sure would like to see him increase the child tax credit like McCain.

Since I’m on of the poor folk, I’ll give this issue to Obama. Chris Rock said it pretty good when he said “vote for the guy with one house”. Obama’s background means he won’t forget about the poor. The one thing that I didn’t like was the fact that he continued campaigning and decided to let the other Senators figure out the bail out bill. Give McCain credit for going back to the hill and doing some work.

HealthCare

McCain - McCain again is all about the business side of things. Typical Republican ideology, no Maverick here. He is pushing the fact that he is going to give every American $5000 to spend on whatever healthcare package we want, but unfortunately, most health care packages cost a whole lot more. In addition, what happens to my emplyer sponsored health care? They will stop providing it thus putting more money in corporate pockets while I have to use my own money to cover the additional cost of my health care and the taxes McCain is going to charge me!

Obama - Unfortunately Obama doesn’t really have a plan. He talks about adding Technology, but that’s already happening. Reducing costs and forcing business to provide healthcare just wont work. I think Obama struck out on this one. No change, nothing new, no ideas.

What we need to do if figure out WHY it costs so much to see a doctor in the first place. There is no reason an asprin should cost six bucks in the hospital. Figure out how to reduce the cost of obtaining, not providing healthcare and make it affordable. Give me a supplement to my employer provided healthcare. While what my employer provides pretty much sucks, its better than nothing. Just help me cover out of pocket and co-pays. If Canada and other coutries can make a National Health Care Plan work, why can’t we?

This one goes to McCain, because at least he HAS a plan…

Iraq War

McCain - Typical Military man. He knows what’s going on over there. Better yet, he knows how to listen to the commanders in the field and provide them with the tools they need to get the job done. I like his plan, but I would like to see him put more emphasis on turning over security to a United Nations Peace Keeping Force and pull our troops out.

Obama - Hook ‘em Up, Move ‘em out rawhide… That’s the Democratic theme. Just get out. The same theme that hurt us in Vietnam and Korea and Somalia. Again, no real plan here except to pull out in 16 months leaving a small peace keeping force behind.

While I above all want our troops out of there, I know first hand they do not want to get out if the job isn’t done. We need to get the troops out responsibly. Let the ground commanders come up with the strategy and tell you when its time to start the withdrawl. This one has to go to McCain.

Energy

McCain - McCain owns oil. ‘nough said. Why would he want to do anything to hurt his bottom line? He talks about adding 45 new nuclear power plants and creating more clean coal plants and doing more drilling, but bottom line is he wants America to buy American oil… HIS oil.

Obama - Create more jobs by investing in clean energy. Good idea. Maybe it will work, but again, Obama is trying to FORCE his will on business and in a free market economy, it just doesn’t work. I do like his plan a little better, just wish it had more substance.

Gotta give this one to Obama. He doesn’t have any personal interest in energy so he is going to listen to his advisers and do what’s right rather than what’s good for him.

So you see where this is going?? If you are keeping count, its two for McCain and Two for Obama. Now I’m no better off than where I was before.  UGH! Now what?

I don’t care for either candidate personally and they split in my top 4 issues. Who do I vote for? The one thing in Obama’s favor at this point is that he DOESN’T have Sara Palin as his running mate. I thought Obama was inexperienced, she’s worse. Not that I like Biden so much, but out of the 4 people I would much rather have Biden as President than any of them!

Another factor to consider…

Every time we have had a Democratic President and a Republican Controlled Congress we have had an economic boom. Think about that… In my previous post I said in the bottom of the 9th you want your ace to come in and get the job done. But now I’m thinking you know they put the mighty Casey in to bat and he struck out. Maybe its time to give that rookie a chance and see what he can do. Things can’t get much worse and maybe we can change the power in congress and history will repeat itself.

I have to admit that prior to watching the presidential debate Friday night I was leaning towards voting for Obama.

Everyone I have talked to said this is the most difficult election we have had in a long time. Both candidates pretty much suck, so its a choice of the lesser of two evils.

Chris Rock said something in a Larry King interview that kid of really hit home with me. “Vote for the guy with one house”. It was really that simple. Someone who owns one house will be more apt to ensure the middle class will be able to survive the next 4 years. After all, McCain is a multi millionaire. Why would he care about the middle class.

But something hit me wrong with Obama during the debate. I can not see how the polls say he won. He came of as arrogant, self centered and inexperienced. He contradicted himself on several issues and he really lacks any kid of real plan.

Let’s be real… The POTUS does NOT run this Country. He makes the final decision, but a good president does so after he listens to all of his advisors and weighs all of the facts. Obama came off as someone who will do what he wants and will be more likely to turn a deaf ear to those around him.

While McCain is being labled another Bush, I am starting to think that is a bad rap. He knows Bush did wrong. He admits Bush’s policy has failed. For a multi milionare, he seems incredible grounded and down to earth.

While I am a politicain by nature, I am not affiliated with any party. As a matter of fact, I truly believe this country needs a third party, the common sense party.  (see this Washington Post Article)

Unfortunately, the Republicans and Democrats in power would never allow a third party to invade their realm so we are stuck with what we have for now.  Which leads us back to the problem at hand… Who to vote for…

This Country needs a third party, The Common Sense Party.

So lets take a closer look at the two candidates…

Obama:
Pros - Fresh Ideas, first African American nominee, supports the withdrawal of troops out of Iraq, wants to tax the rich and give to the poor.

Cons - He’s been in politics for only 2 years, he’s Oprah’s little bit*h, has no clear plan on boosting the economy, has no foreign policy, arrogant, self rightous, picked Joe Biden as VP.

McCain:
Pros - Grounded, down to earth for a rich guy, knows his stuff, knows the way to stimulate the economy is to take a market approach, wants our troops out of Iraq at the decision of the commanders in the field, understands that the Bush policies have failed, wants to control Government spending.

Cons - He’s old, He’s a Republican and cow tows to the right (although I see him a little left of right), He’s old, he doesn’t even know how many houses he has and he picked the biggest dumb A$$ possible as his running mate.

So where does that leave us?

Well. Right now, I think this country needs change, but it also needs experience. We need someone who has the ability to get us out of this crisis. Someone who can approach things in a new way, but with the knowledge and experience of a seasoned vet.

When it’s the bottom of the 9th with two outs and the go ahead run at the plate, you put in your seasoned vet, not the new rookie…

I like Obama being a new person and wanting to change the world. But this is our life you’re talking about, not a Coca-Cola commercial. Let’s face it… When it’s the bottom of the 9th with two outs and the go ahead run at the plate, you put in your seasoned vet, not the new rookie…

At this time, I have to go with McCain… I hope you do too.

Peace.

What the heck is up with all the people whining and complaining that the US is going to spend a trillion dollars on saving our economy?

I say ITS ABOUT DA*N time! We are spending billions a day on the war in Iraq, rebuilding their infrastructure. Isn’t it about time we spent our tax dollars on our own economy?

The clock below shows the accumulating cost of the War in Iraq.

Iraq War Cost

I say write your senator and congressman and tell them its about da*n time!

I’ve been having a hell of a time coming up with a new name for my business. Currently its e-FX Internet / Multimedia, but I’m getting tired of the name and can’t seem to come up with something fresh. I choose e-FX but no one gets it. e (as in e-mail, e-commerce) and FX for Effects for it would be e-Effects or e-FX. Get it?

Didn’t think so. :-( lol.

The website is http://www.efxbiz.com if you want to look around. I am working on a new site as well.

I want to focus more on:
Online Strategies
Branding
e-Commerce
SEO
Online Advertising
Corporate Identity
Logo Design
Website Design
Concept Development
Flash Presentations and design

But I can’t come up with something catchy. Any ideas?

Peace out.

Well the fall is in the air, Jerry Lewis is on TV and my wallet feels quiet a bit lighter… Must be time to go back to school!!

The kids are anxious to go back. Even the High Schoolers are excited (although they won’t admit it).

Do you remember the excitement the days before going back to school? Trying on all your new clothes, packing all your new crayons and markers and pens and pencils into your book bag (we didn’t have back packs).  Trying as hard as you could to fall asleep so you could get up on time, but just being too excited to go to sleep?

Now as I remember what it was like being a kid, I feel the same excitement as I did back then… No more “I’m bored”, or “He’s bugging me”.

Yeah… Back to school is an exciting time… Some things never change…

Happy Labor Day! and Happy Back to School!

Some quick facts on nutrition from my friends at Shape Fit

Remember, food is fuel. You need to eat the right food to fuel and energize your body throughout the day and through your workouts. Think of your body like a high performance race car. Always use the highest octane fuel in order to get the best results. This is a good analogy to use when thinking about what foods to put into your body. Always use nutrient dense power foods to provide enough energy (octane) to really boost your performance so you can run at optimal levels.

Key factors to include in your high performance nutrition plan:

  • Eat a nutrient dense meal every 2-3 hours
  • Eat 5-6 smaller meals throughout the day
  • Learn how many calories your body needs per day
  • Include a lean protein source at each meal
  • Eat enough protein for your bodyweight (chart below)
  • Drink at least drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day
  • Make sure to eat a nutrient dense healthy breakfast
  • Eliminate processed sugars from your dietary plan
Your Training Goal
Daily Protein Needs
Bodybuilding 1.0 - 1.6g/lb bodyweight
Power & Speed 0.9 - 1.1g/LB bodyweight
Dieting 0.35 - 1.0g/LB bodyweight
Endurance 0.7 - 0.9g/LB bodyweight
Trauma Recovery 0.9 - 1.4g/LB bodyweight
Stressed 0.45 - 0.7g/LB bodyweight

Focus on nutrient dense foods which includes lean protein, whole grain carbs and the right kind of fats. You need food to fuel your body and increase your metabolism. The less you eat, the lower your BMR gets and your body eventually goes into a starvation mode where it holds onto fat as much as possible.

Remember to “eat breakfast like a king and dinner like a peasant”. Your breakfast should be large and each meal after this becoming smaller and smaller. Your dinner should be much smaller than your breakfast. Your body is slowing down at night and doesn’t need high calories to fuel it. Stick with a salad with lean meat (chicken, turkey) and steamed veggies. The main focus should be eating clean nutritious food while eliminating all the empty calories from your nutritional plan.

Fill your diet with nutrient dense foods. Examples are:

  • Lean Protein Sources (chicken breast, turkey breast, fish, egg whites)
  • Healthy Starchy Carbohydrates (brown rice, sweet potatoes, oatmeal)
  • Lean Fibrous Veggies (broccoli, mushrooms, squash, zucchini)
  • Fiber Packed Fruit (apples, berries, oranges, grapes)
  • Healthy Fats (flaxseed oil, avocados, walnuts, olive oil)

Sample Daily Meal Plan:

  • 8am:
1 chicken breast (6 ounce), 1 cup of steamed brown rice, 1 small salad with balsamic vinaigrette dressing
  • 11am:
turkey sandwich with whole wheat bread (6 ounces of lean turkey breast, lettuce, tomato, mustard) (NO cheese or mayo).
  • 2pm:
6 ounces of top round steak, 1 cup of broccoli, 1 cup of non-fat cottage cheese
  • 5pm:
egg white omelet (6 egg whites, mushrooms), 2 pieces of whole wheat toast (NO butter)
  • 8pm:
6 ounces of fish (salmon, catfish, trout, halibut, etc.), 2 cups steamed zucchini, 1 small salad with balsamic vinaigrette dressing

Usually I look forward to coming home from work, eating dinner, chilling out then getting in a good workout. Tonight just sucked. Dinner was ok, but I was dead tired. Probably from staying up until 1:30am every night.

I attempted to go workout, but I just didn’t have the energy, the motivation or the strength and my workout just sucked. I gave up before I was done it was going so bad.

I get home to find out my 16 year old who went canoeing decided to turn the boat over and soaked his cell phone. Now understand this is the same cell phone he cracked the screen on I had to replace already. Taking it apart and putting it into a bag of rice should dry it out though so he’s lucky.

Next I went to make lunch for tomorrow, only to find out the kids went through 2 pounds of lunch meat, a whole bag of pretzels and a super size jar of peanut butter in 3 day!! Yes, 3 DAYS!! Of course this left me with nothing to take for lunch tomorrow.

So I come up to my trusty laptop to write about my day only to find out my new domain name is still not resolving so even if I write this, you probably won’t be able to read it until tomorrow!

Ugh… Ever just have one of those night where you just want to say screw it and just crawl into bed? That’s what I’m having tonight! Thank goodness tomorrow is Friday!

Peace out.
